MotorSolve 6: Powering BMW i3 Design and Simulations

Automotive manufacturers are always looking for ways to increase efficiency in the design process and reduce their product’s time-to-market. This webinar introduces Infolytica’s MotorSolve 6.0 and its quick and easy virtual prototyping abilities.

Attendees will come away with an understanding of MotorSolve 6.0’s new 2017 features for motor and generator analysis for both hybrid & electric vehicles. Of special importance is DC bus power generation, including battery charging through energy recovery during braking. The presentation uses BMW’s traction motor-generator-used to power the unique 2012 carbon-composite i3 electric vehicle-as a practical example.

Simulate Power Transformers using MagNet 2D/3D

In this free webinar watch how using MagNet’s non-linear surface impedance and perfect electric insulator modeling are extremely useful when designing medium to large power transformers. Using these features significantly reduces the mesh size, hence the solution time, without sacrificing accurate results.

Simulating power transmission lines with ElecNet

To completely understand the complexities of the electric field produced by and surrounding a power transmission line, the insulator and tower requires accurate simulation software.

In this webinar, we will tackle this problem with ElecNet 2D/3D which uses the finite element method to solve for the electric field strength, forces, capacitances and other quantities.

Three examples will be covered during this webinar:

  • Insulating structure for a transmission line
  • Insulating structure installed on a transmission line with 3 phases
  • Lightning striking a surge arrester

The evaluation of the electric field stress will be evaluated in various areas in order to modify the design, if necessary, to reduce corona discharge.

Portions of the data and problem definitions are taken from EPRI's Summary of E-field Result for IEEE Model Insulator & IEEE TF on E-field modeling of Composite Insulators reports.

In this Webinar:

    • Using ElecNet’s non-linear transient analysis for simulating a lightning strike
    • Comparing ElecNet’s results with measured results and data from EPRI

Designing Electric Actuators

Actuators vary significantly in design, dimension and usage. Electric actuators continue to replace traditional pneumatic devices due to cost and application flexibility.

Designing an electric actuator requires accurate electromagnetic field simulation software. In this webinar, we will explore the designs of several typical actuator devices using MagNet v7 3D.

Pivoting, linear and rotating type actuators will be demonstrated.

Some of the performance metrics that will be examined include temperature, velocity & acceleration of components in motion, and resulting forces or torques.

In this Webinar:

    • MagNet's easy parameterization in detailed 3D models
    • MagNet’s time-transient response capabilities
    • The benefits of coupled electromagnetic-thermal analysis
